Introduction
IMT is pleased to present our new university portal, the
Cougars' Den, available July 20, 2004.
The Cougars' Den university portal, which provides online access to university services, will be available to all APU constituents with an existing üdeupa account. The Cougars' Den replaces üdeupa, our previous university portal, providing several upgrades and enhancements.
On July 20, 2004, the Cougars' Den will provide familiar access to information resources, allowing you to continue working effectively. However, as part of our transition plan, üdeupa will continue to be available until October 5th, 2004. Note: Starting with the Cougars' Den launch date, access to some resources through üdeupa will require a second login.
Many of you are familiar with the Cougars' Den Alumni Community, which will continue to provide all online services for alumni. These services can still be accessed through the APU website and will also be linked to in the new Cougars' Den university portal.
Also available with this release, is a self service password reset feature. This convenient service allows you to securely reset a forgotten password through the Cougars' Den, instead of contacting the IMT Support Desk. All users will be required to answer a minimum of two Challenge Questions upon logging in to the Cougars' Den for the first time.
For a detailed transition plan see the Portal Project Transition Plan
Training for the new portal is available for Faculty and Staff according to the IMT Training Calendar.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why are we replacing üdeupa?
Since its launch in 1999, üdeupa has provided access to
university services online. In order to meet the increasing needs
of the university, to provide enterprise level services to the APU
community, a new infrastructure was needed. The new portal
infrastructure provides us with a platform to build these new
services to accommodate current and future needs.
All current features and functionality in üdeupa will
remain until üdeupa is taken offline on October 5, 2004.
2. Why is a second login required in üdeupa?
Users that continue using üdeupa will be required to enter
their username and password a second time to access:
- Campus Online Services
- My Classes
- Transcripts
- Grades
- Grade Entry
- Online Library Resources (from off-campus)
- Facilities Management Work Order System
- Resource 25 (calendar.apu.edu)
The reason for the second login is because certain resources
can only be protected by one authentication system at a time.
This prevents us from allowing seamless access from both
üdeupa and Cougars' Den simultaneously.
Cougars' Den uses a new authentication system, and is now
the primary hub for accessing all protected online services
provided by APU. As such, seamless access for users of
Cougars' Den will be enabled with the consequence of requiring
a second login for users that continue to use üdeupa to
access those resources during the transition period.
The second login is the same as your üdeupa
username/password, however your üdeupa username is
now referred to as your APU NetID.
3. How long will üdeupa be available?
üdeupa will be available until October 5th, 2004.
IMT realizes that it will take some time for all of our customers
to adapt to the new "look and feel" associated with the new portal,
and is planning to keep üdeupa fully operational until
October 5th. Starting on October 5th, the Cougars' Den will be the
only means to access resources formerly provided in üdeupa.
4. What is the Password Reset Tool?
The Password Reset Tool allows you to reset your own APU
network password via Cougars' Den. To utilize this tool, you must:
- know your APU NetID
- know your APU ID Number (student ID or fac/staff ID)
- know your Social Security Number (SSN)
- know the answers to the challenge questions you
previously filled out
5. Is there training for the new portal?
IMT will be conducting optional training classes for Faculty
and Staff, which will introduce the features and improved
navigation of the new portal. Each session will last approximately
1 hour and will include a time for "hands on" learning.
To find out more information or to reserve a spot for a session,
see the IMT Training Schedule at:
http://www.apu.edu/imt/training/calendar.php
6. How do I access the Cougars' Den Alumni Community?
Many of you are familiar with the Cougars' Den Alumni
Community, a service which helps our alumni network,
communicate, and stay connected to each other, people, and
events at APU. The new University portal, also called the
Cougars' Den, reflects our commitment to provide a unified,
consistent communication message to our constituents.
New and current students, faculty/staff, and alumni will learn
the name "Cougars' Den", which will last throughout their
relationship with the University. Connections will exist
between the two portals, with the long-term goal of merging the
available resources.
7. Where can I get more information about the Transition Plan?
A more detailed Transition Plan is available here.
8. What enhancements does the Cougars' Den provide over üdeupa?
Among the enhancements that have been made to the Cougars' Den are:
- Password Reset Tool
- Tabs for organizing content
- New Preferences Interface
- Chapel Attendance Channel
- Ministry Credits Channel
Future Direction
It is our hope that you will enjoy the experience of using the
Cougars' Den. The long term goal of our Portal strategy is to
provide Web access to university services. This strategy will
provide a technical foundation which supports APU's vision of
enabling transformational scholarship and excellent service.
Universal electronic access to self-service and educational
resources is part of this vision. üdeupa was our first step
toward this end, however the Cougars' Den prepares us to bridge
together new and existing applications and information sources,
providing seamless Web access to university services.
This release is phase one in our portal strategy, and
represents a "no new functionality" replacement of our current
system. Future phases will focus on new information and community
collaboration features, as well as tying in more university
services and applications.
